2D/3D Animation

Animations and Music Videos for ZDF Siebenstein

Prof. Anja Stöffler & Ina Werner (ZDF)

From concept art and dramaturgy to production planning, animation and playout. All steps are in the hands of the students from the Media Design / Time-Based Media teaching unit, who have produced the 15 animated films to date with great commitment and imagination using various animation and film techniques (2d, 3d, stop-motion, animation, etc.). The work will be accompanied on the part of ZDF by Ina Werner (editor and dramaturge) and Prof. Anja Stöffler (overall management).

Based on the ‘Jungle Song’, the group of students conceived, animated and produced the visual interpretation of the song at the University of Mainz in the department of media design. The instrumentation of the song uses natural instrumentation such as ukulele, piano keys made of shells, etc. and emancipates itself from usual rules. A special feature is the technical realization of the 3d animation with the game engine Unreal. A workflow that will change the editing of 3d animation in the future. The characters were created in Maya, the Unreal Engine served as a rendering tool. This has the advantage of faster correction possibilities and further processing in the areas of game, AR/VR, etc.

The results are shown on ZDF and KIKA and are visible on all complementary digital platforms. The successful realizations lead to a continuation of the CME cooperation (Consortium Media Education – ZDF and Hochschule Mainz / img) for many years.
