The commercial for the FSK app Nationwide in the cinema and on the Internet

Prof. Anja Stoeffler und Prof. Hartmut Jahn

The new app of the Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle der Filmwirtschaft (FSK) is used in cinemas throughout Germany. The commercial for the app was created by master students Lukas Rinker (direction) and Matthias Niedoba (animation), media designer Ralf Schönwiese (sound) and Nina Basten (narrator).
The Institute for Media Design was responsible for the creative consultation. The app enables the sorting of cinema, DVD, Blu-ray and series offers by age groups. Age ratings and reasons for release are thus available at any time on mobile devices.

The use of the Internet via mobile devices has increased dramatically among young people in recent years. While only 29% used a smartphone in 2011, this figure had risen to 73 %. Since 2010, the FSK has also registered a rapidly increasing interest in accessing the age ratings and the corresponding justifications on its homepage.
This information is now also available on mobile devices. The FSK’s new free app contains everything important on the subject of film and youth protection. Classified according to the areas of cinema, DVD/Blu-ray as well as series
the FSK App shows the films of the last three cinema start weeks and the titles from the current TOP 25 sales ranking. Older titles, which have been reviewed by the FSK since 2003, can also be find by search function. Children and young people are addressed via a quiz and games, which address the topics of youth protection, film studies and media competence on contemporary way.
